Community Rallies Behind Progressive Leaders
Albany, NY – Citizen Action of New York, a grassroots membership organization that fights for key issues like fair education funding, quality and affordable health care for all, Fair Elections campaign finance reform, racial justice, and a more progressive tax system, today announced their endorsement of three candidates for open Capital District Assembly seats: Carolyn McLaughlin in the 108th Assembly District, Patricia Fahy in the 109th Assembly District, and Phil Steck in the 110th Assembly District.
“We’re proud to offer the support of our Capital District Chapter, and over 20,000 members of Citizen Action statewide, to Carolyn McLaughlin, Patricia Fahy, and Phil Steck, in their camapigns for State Assembly,” said Anita Thayer, Co-Chair of Citizen Action of New York’s Capital District Chapter. “Carolyn, Patricia, and Phil have proven that they will put the interests of working families first, and we look forward to working with them when they are elected to the Assembly.”
“On the issues that matter most in our communities, like a good education for our kids, Carolyn, Patricia, and Phil have made it clear that they’ll fight for us,” said Ivette Alfonso, President of Citizen Action of New York. “We need progressives in the Assembly who will push bring critical reform issues, like publicly financed Fair Elections, to the front of the agenda. New Yorkers can’t afford to have CEO campaign contributors dictate our State’s policy agenda. We’re proud to offer our endorsement to these three candidates who will work every day on behalf of New York’s working families.
“I am honored to accept Citizen Action’s endorsement and look forward to working together and accomplishing our shared vision for the Capital Region,” said Carolyn McLaughlin, candidate to represent New York’s 108th Assembly District. “Citizen Action’s loud voice harnesses the power of grassroots activism to get the job done for New Yorkers. As someone who will be both the first woman and first African American to represent the Capital Region in the New York State Assembly, I am proud to be a part of Citizen’s Action progressive legacy. I am looking forward to standing up with Citizen Action to create jobs, preserve the middle class and to make sure all of our children are prepared for the 21st century workplace. I also share Citizen’s Action devotion to the protection of women’s right to make their own health care decisions and their commitment to ensure that all people have access to quality, affordable health care. Together we can get the job done for citizens in the 108th Assembly District.”
“I’m honored to receive Citizen Action of New York’s endorsement for our campaign to represent the 109th Assembly District,” said Patricia Fahy. “I’m looking forward to working with Citizen Action to make sure all of our kids get the quality education they need and deserve, and to reform our election system so that big money campaign contributors no longer decide what happens in our State government. I’ll partner with Albany residents to fight for their issues and make our community stronger.”
“Citizen Action’s endorsement is a testament to Phil Steck’s record of fighting for quality public education, economic opportunity and affordable and accessible health care,” the Steck campaign said. “Their support is the type of grassroots energy that is powering this campaign towards a victory on Primary Day.”
