Hudson Valley, NY – Citizen Action of New York, a grassroots membership organization that fights for key issues like fair education funding, quality and affordable health care for all, Fair Elections campaign finance reform, racial justice, and a more progressive tax system, today announced their endorsement of George Latimer in his campaign to represent New York’s 37th State Senate District, and Justin Wagner for his bid to represent New York’s 40th State Senate District.

“We’re proud to offer our endorsement to George Latimer and Justin Wagner to represent the Hudson Valley in the State Senate,” said Ivette Alfonso, President of Citizen Action of New York. “Our 20,000 members across New York are proud to stand with George and Justin as we continue our fight for issues so important to working families – issues like publicly financed Fair Elections, a more progressive tax system, fair education funding, and access to quality and affordable health care for all.”

“Citizen Action has been on the front line of fighting for open and transparent government that takes the politics out of public policy,” said George Latimer. “As the Chairman of the County Board of Legislators, I opened up the meetings to the public by broadcasting them on TV and passed a redistricting plan that was not challenged in court. As a result of the bipartisan and open climate during my Chairmanship, we were able to cut taxes by nearly 8% because all of the stakeholders involved understood our mission of protecting Westchester taxpayers. In order to truly obtain our policy goals of lowering taxes, creating jobs and revitalizing our economy, we need to work hand in hand with advocates like Citizen Action to bring that same mentality to the State Senate.”

“Reforming government is one of the primary reasons I’m running for the State Senate,” said Justin Wagner. “I’m happy to have the support of activists who are committed to campaign finance reform to reduce the influence of big money in elections.”
