Albany, NY – With reformer Cecilia Tkaczyk ahead by 139 votes in the race to represent the 46th State Senate District, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:

Despite a new district that was created by the Republican majority for their candidate, the true champion for real campaign finance reform, Cecilia Tkaczyk, has shown that the message of limiting the influence of CEO campaign contributors in elections resonates with voters. It’s clear that there is a mandate for finally changing the way New York’s elections are decided. We need a small donor matching system that puts voters first. New Yorkers have shown that they expect their representatives to work with Governor Cuomo to pass Fair Elections now.
