Citizen Action’s Affiliate (PPEF) Now Providing Enrollment Services Under the Health Care Law (ObamaCare)

The day has finally arrived: on October 1st, 2013, residents of New York will be able to enroll in cheaper health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). The new coverage is available to individuals, families and small businesses: and Citizen Action’s research and education affiliate, the Public Policy and Education Fund (PPEF) will be here to help you every step of the way!
NY State of Health, The Official Health Plan Marketplace (formerly called the New York Health Benefit Exchange) will make it easier and more affordable for New Yorkers to get covered. Health plans offered through the Marketplace include a comprehensive set of benefits. The Marketplace will enroll people both in public programs like Medicaid and private plans for those with higher incomes. And if your income is up to four times the Federal Poverty Level (somewhat over $90,000 a year for a family of four), you’ll be eligible for financial assistance, called “premium tax credits,” to help you with the cost. People now buying coverage directly from a health insurer can expect a savings of over 50% on their health coverage!
PPEF will have staff called “navigators” to advise residents of their choices concerning health coverage and to enroll consumers and small businesses in health plans or public insurance programs approved by the Marketplace or New York State.
PPEF navigators are salaried employees that we pay through state funds. PPEF’s help is free to prospective enrollees. Unlike, for example brokers, they do not receive a commission or any other compensation tied to enrollment.
