At last week’s inauguration, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said:

“We are called to put an end to economic and social inequalities that threaten to unravel the city we love. And so today, we commit to a new progressive direction in New York.”

And here in Albany, new Mayor Kathy Sheehan, said, “equity and social justice [will] guide our economic decisions.”

These two new mayors, and many other newly elected local officials across the state, represent a new opening for progressive social change.

Because of decades of hard work by you and countless other activists who believe in justice, the time has come for us to move New York forward.

2014 is our opportunity, and that’s why we’re going to work harder than ever before to make this year be our biggest step toward a New York and America that work for all of us!

But our work is your work. Our power is your power. We can’t win without you. We need you to be involved. Click here to get involved in Citizen Action in 2014!

We believe that equality and opportunity should drive public policy, not austerity. And that policy decisions should be aimed at creating a state and a nation that work for all of us, not just the wealthy few.

These ideas aren’t new. But right now, we have the momentum to make them be a common sense part of how New York works.

The visions laid out by mayors de Blasio and Sheehan are evidence that our work hasn’t been in vain. By pairing issues with elections, our grassroots movement has built real progressive power.

As Mayor de Blasio said, “…it won’t be accomplished only by me; it will be accomplished by all of us — those of us here today, and millions of everyday New Yorkers in every corner of our city.”

That’s what Citizen Action is all about. Join us and everyday New Yorkers all across our state in winning economic, racial, social and environmental justice, and a better New York for all of us.

Thanks for all you do,
