This week’s elections were incredibly disappointing. We worked so hard to change the dynamic in this state and across our country. It’s hard to believe that so many progressive candidates lost when it felt like momentum was on our side.
But one thing is very clear coming out of these elections: billionaires bought themselves a Republican majority in our State Senate. Now, Governor Cuomo will have their votes to pass a radical education agenda based on privatizing schools and high stakes testing.
Before they even get a chance to recover from election season, we need to make it crystal clear to every member of the New York State Legislature that we’re watching to make sure they stand up to Cuomo’s Wall Street education agenda.
Listen, elections are hard. Winning justice is hard. This election season certainly wasn’t easy for progressives. But it’s over now, and we need to come together and stay together.
The forces we’re up against are incredibly powerful. But over and over again, I’ve seen that people power can defeat big money. If we do it right, we can win.
With all that’s stacked against us, we don’t have a second to lose.
We need to mount the most aggressive campaign we’ve ever had. We need to stand up for our children – for the future of our communities – right now.
Thank you so much for all you’ve done. Together, we can build a New York that works for all of us.
