Albany, NY – As Attorney General Schneiderman begins to implement an executive order that gives his office authority over prosecutions in cases of police officers killing civilians, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:
“Too many families have been denied justice after their loved ones have died at the hands of police. That’s why the Attorney General’s role as an independent special prosecutor is such an important step toward restoring faith in our criminal justice system. Local district attorneys should be doing all they can to ensure that no family in New York is denied justice again. Our communities need local prosecutors to protect families, not start a political turf war.”
