Buffalo, NY – Members of Citizen Action of New York’s Western New York Chapter announce their enthusiastic endorsement of Amber Small for New York State Senate. Citing her progressive values and motivated desire to end the influence that wealthy donors have over our state’s leaders, Citizen Action urged voters to cast their ballots for Small.

“I am proud that we are endorsing Amber Small for NYS Senate,” said Eve Shippens, a Board Member of Citizen Action’s Western New York Chapter. “Amber shares the values that are important to me – racial, economic and social justice. Amber believes that every child in New York State has gifts that must be nurtured by our schools. She supports policies to end school suspensions, increase graduation rates, and end the school-to-prison pipeline.”

“Ms. Small is a very special candidate,” said Susan Gillick, Ph.D., Board President of Citizen Action’s Western New York Chapter.  “She is not a career politician whose primary motivations are self-promotion and personal ambition. Her platform is consistent with Citizen Action’s progressive beliefs: ending the outrageous corruption in state politics; improving our infrastructure; curbing pollution of our air, land and waterways; and supporting small local businesses. We are excited that Amber Small has decided to run for State Senate and give her our full support.”

“Citizen Action of Western New York not only brings the most important issues facing our area to the forefront of political conversation, but they act on those issues as well,” said State Senate Candidate Small. “The organization strives to make changes on a large scale and they do so through their widespread support and staunch advocacy. The values that Citizen Action promote through their work are the same values that we run our campaign on. I’m grateful for their endorsement and look forward to working with them to continue the good work of passing progressive legislation that will help all Western New Yorkers.”

Small serves as the Executive Director of the Parkside Community Association. In this role she, is an advocate for 2,500 residents, working to enhance their quality of life through crime prevention, traffic calming, fair housing advocacy and more. Amber also serves on the Board of Directors for B-Team Buffalo and proudly serves as Vice Chair of WEPAC, a nonpartisan group focused on increasing female involvement in politics and government. Amber is a graduate of the University at Buffalo, and resides in North Buffalo Parkside neighborhood with her family.

Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots, community organization with over 30,000 members across New York State. The organization works on issues important to our communities, including limiting the influence of money in politics, guaranteeing livable wages and economy-boosting jobs, quality public education for all children, reforms to the criminal justice system, and more. Citizen Action endorses candidates for public office who support the same vision for a New York that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
