Here’s our message to Donald Trump: Sanctuary cities are not going anywhere. We will resist your anti-immigrant agenda.
President Trump’s executive actions today double-down on ugly campaign rhetoric that does nothing but tap into people’s worst emotions – anger, fear and hate. They aren’t just an attack on immigrants – they’re an attack on our values as New Yorkers and they’re unconstitutional.
The president doesn’t have the authority to cut off funding for essential services, like schools, roads, bridges and housing from our cities simply because we choose to protect the immigrants who are a part of our communities.
Leaders on both the left and right have agreed for years that the only way to really address immigration is comprehensive reform that creates a pathway toward citizenship for the millions of undocumented people who live and work here every day.
We need our elected officials on the state, local and federal level, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, to join us in resisting the Trump administration’s dangerous immigration policies. Senator Schumer can start by stepping up and opposing President Trump’s abhorrent cabinet nominations.
