People Power Delays Vote on TrumpCare
Albany, NY – In response to the House of Representatives delaying a vote on the American Health Care Act, which will dismantle the US health care system, causing millions to lose health coverage and threatening the quality and cost of coverage for others, Karen Scharff, executive director of Citizen Action of New York, said:
“A huge public outcry stopped impending disaster today as Republican leaders couldn’t muster enough votes to pass their cruel giveaway to CEOs and the super-rich. After countless town hall meetings, phone calls, and district office visits with constituents, members of Congress saw the consequences of stripping coverage from 24 million people and making it more expensive for everyone else.
“Donald Trump guaranteed this bill would pass, but his last minute changes to appease right-wing radicals just increased voter outrage. New York members of Congress should take this as a message: if you go after our health care, we will fight back. It’s time to kill this bill before it gets any worse and destroys our entire health care system.”
