I’m not sure if I told you guys I was sick, but yeah, I am. So anyways, last night I had a fever dream and things got really weird. Instead of having a normal dream where I find out that I am the son of Batman, or am a member of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, my subconscious took me on an interesting journey. Here’s what happened. I dreamed that I was in the South Bronx door knocking with my favorite late night host, Desus and Mero. Why were we door knocking? Well, we were trying to get enough petition signatures to open a community garden on 149th Street and Grand Concourse. I woke up before we hit our goal, but I think Desus was coming up with a plan to clipboard in Fordham, so let’s hope for the best. Thankfully, that bizarre dream put me in great spirits this morning, and ready to brag about our on-the-ground activism. Here is what we were up to this week.

Climate Change is Apparently Debatable. In response to Donald Trump’s new executive orders to undermine the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan, the Long Island Progressive Coalition joined community members, climate activists, and people who don’t want dangerous chemicals in their water to stand up to Trump and his earth destroying executive orders. They also called on Governor Cuomo to lead in New York State by passing the Climate & Community Protection Act.
State Budget Countdown. On March 27, the Western New York chapter of Citizen Action, parents, students and activists went to the office of State Senator Chris Jacobs to demand that he support a budget that fully funds Foundation Aid, bringing $91 million to Buffalo Public Schools.
Call Your Representative. Everyone’s waiting with bated breath to see what the State’s budget will look like. Well, not everyone. For example, while most people are tracking twitter and reading articles, we have actively called and visited our elected leaders to let them know what we want in the final state budget. Earlier this week, Metro Justice held a phone banking event for participants to call their elected officials and demand they stand up for working people and not the richest one percent.

TAKE ACTION!
Republicans in the State Senate are trying to weaken a proposal to keep kids out of the adult criminal justice system. And a group of breakaway Democrats is giving them the leverage they need to push their agenda. Tell Governor Andrew Cuomo and Independent Democratic Conference Leader Sen. Jeffrey D. Klein: No kids in adult prisons! Click here to take action.
