Statement on Passage of Budget Extender
Albany, NY – In response to an agreement to pass a budget extension, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, said:
“The need to pass a budget extender proves that the Independent Democrats’ alliance with the party of Trump is an epic failure for the people of New York.
“It is children – those affected by Raise the Age and every child in public schools – who will pay the price for the IDC’s power grab. By empowering the Senate Republicans, Governor Cuomo and the IDC let them derail the budget process on two issues critical to communities of color.
“While Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have their finger on the button ready to blow up New York State’s budget, Governor Cuomo and the IDC worked with those same Republicans in the State Senate to block any increase in taxes on millionaires.
“Our leaders in Albany need to serve New Yorkers by passing a budget that raises the age, fully funds schools and expands the millionaires’ tax right now.”
