Progressive Slate Includes: Sheehan for Mayor, Ellis for Common Council President, Golby in Ward 10, Balarin in Ward 11
Albany, NY – Citizen Action of New York members gathered at their Central Avenue offices on Wednesday to announce the organization’s endorsements in hotly contested elections for Albany City government leading up to the September Democratic Primary. The slate of endorsed candidates includes Kathy Sheehan for re-election as Mayor, Corey Ellis for Common Council President, Leah Golby for 10th Ward Common Council Member and Alfredo Balarin for 11th Ward Common Council Member.
“These candidates are committed to realizing our shared progressive vision for a City of Albany that works for every resident,” said Ivette Alfonso, President of Citizen Action of New York and Board Co-Chair of Citizen Action’s Capital District Chapter. “We’re proud to offer our support to these dedicated public servants who have proven records of accomplishments, strong experience, and a commitment to working collaboratively with community leaders to meet people’s needs.”
“Citizen Action fights every day for our shared progressive values,” said Kathy Sheehan. “I am honored to receive their endorsement in this election. I look forward to working with them on this race and to standing with them on important issues in the years to come.”
“I am honored to be endorsed by one of the leading progressive organizations in the state of New York that continues to fight for justice, equality and equity and builds strong coalitions to fight for all,” said Corey Ellis.
“It is an honor to be recognized by Citizen Action for my record of accomplishments as I seek re-election as Albany’s 10th ward Council Member,” said Leah Golby. “The evidence is clear that when we work together, we get things done –whether we are addressing flooding in our neighborhood, building a better, safer Madison Ave or keeping pesticides out of our parks. Thank you, Citizen Action, for supporting candidates who are dedicated to equity in city government.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Citizen Action. Citizen Action has always stood up for social justice and equality,” said Alfredo Balarin. “With all we have seen this past week now more than ever before it is important to join in their efforts to accomplish change.”
“These community leaders have shown that social and racial justice is a guiding principle for how they approach the problems facing our city – from public safety, to housing, to youth programs,” added Alfonso.
