Citizen Action of New York Hudson Valley Chapter has announced its organizational endorsements for the general election on November 7th, 2017. The candidates were selected by the chapter for their progressive values, clear vision, and deep concern for issues affecting working families in the Hudson Valley region.
Kingston City Council: Bryant “Drew” Andrews (Ward 7), Jeffrey Ventura Morrell (Ward 1), Rennie Scott-Childress (Ward 3), Andrea Shaut (Ward 9)
Ulster County Legislature: Jennifer Schwartz Berky (Ward 7), Lynn Eckert (Ward 1)
“The opportunity to run for office and serve our community is an incredible honor. To have Citizen Action Hudson Valley, an organization I admire greatly, endorse my candidacy is humbling. I will strive to live up to their expectations of me and continue to fight for what’s right for the community I love,” said Andrea Shaut, Ward 9 City Council candidate.
“I am happy and honored to receive, and accept, the endorsement of Citizen Action of the Hudson Valley. This endorsement means a lot to me because I share Citizen Action’s vision and commitment to grassroots action and I wholeheartedly support their efforts to promote equality, affordable healthcare, campaign finance reform, and quality education for all our kids. As candidate for Alderman in Ward 1, I have been meeting with residents, listening to their concerns, and if elected I will translate those concerns into action to address the needs of all of my neighbors,” said Jeffrey Ventura Morrell, Ward 1 City Council candidate.
“Kingston has changed a lot over the past two decades. We are seeing a community renaissance. Despite our progress, there is much more to be done if we are to transform Kingston into a truly equitable, loving community. It is with this challenge in mind that I would like to express my admiration for the work of Citizen’s Action. CA represents the awesome power of individuals cooperating–organizing their efforts, offering their time, and pooling their energy–to make social justice happen. CA embodies the great promise of the essential American values of liberty and equality. For these reasons, I am grateful to Citizen Action for endorsing my candidacy for Ward 3 Alderman. Together we rise!” said Rennie Scott-Childress, Ward 3 City Council candidate.
“I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Citizen Action of New York for their endorsement of my campaign for Alderman of Ward 7. Citizen Action’s work is crucial in raising political awareness and holding candidates accountable on issues like after school programming for youth, quality education, social justice, affordable housing, healthcare, and fiscal responsibility–all for the betterment of our community. I am proud to be supported by a grassroots organization with the same goals for our beautiful city,” said Bryant “Drew” Andrews, Ward 7 City Council candidate.
“We are incredibly excited to be announcing the endorsements of these Kingston Candidates. We have chosen to stand behind them because they stand for the values that we believe in, share our vision of what could be, and fight to advance that vision. Our endorsement committee does not take these decisions lightly, and we look forward to working with all of these candidates to strengthen Kingston and Ulster County,” said Callie Jayne, lead organizer for Citizen Action of New York Hudson Valley Chapter.
