Albany, NY – In response to the anticipated tax bill vote, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York Karen Scharff issued the following statement:
“Our New York House Members must push their colleagues in Congress to kill the tax bill once and for all. Anything less is a betrayal of public trust and affront to hard-working people in our state. Under the proposed plan, working families will pay higher taxes and more in out-of-pocket expenses, while billionaires like the Kochs and Mercers will be gifted outsized tax breaks. Additionally, the repeal of critical provisions in the Affordable Care Act will leave millions of New Yorkers without dependable health care coverage. A halfhearted “no” vote is not enough. We need our House Members to stand up to a billionaire class intent on pillaging our health care and education systems.”
