Albany, NY — Citizen Action of New York has announced its endorsement of Tom DiNapoli in his reelection bid for New York State Comptroller.
As the custodian of state funds, DiNapoli has worked tirelessly to ensure that state money is being used effectively, and in a manner that minimizes fraud and abuse. He has audited economic development agencies for awarding tax breaks and grants to big corporations that fail to deliver the promised number of jobs or benefits to the surrounding community.
DiNapoli has called out large corporations for unsustainable business practices–like excessive executive compensation–that profit corporate insiders at the expense of everyday consumers.
Citizen Action leaders cite DiNapoli’s consistent record of public service, deep integrity, and independence as some of the reasons for their endorsement.
“Tom DiNapoli balances head and heart in his role as comptroller. He has strengthened the pension fund and grown its assets to an all-time high. And he has used his role as trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund to encourage companies to promote the inclusion of women, exercise responsible labor practices, and protect LGBTQ rights,” said Bob Cohen, Policy Director for Citizen Action of New York.
“Tom understands the importance of getting rid of big money in politics and has consistently fought alongside Citizen Action for comprehensive campaign finance reform,” said Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York. “I’ve known Tom since he was in the Assembly and am proud we supported him in his first Assembly campaign and in his first Comptroller race. We trust Tom to do what is right for our communities and our families, and we will urge New Yorkers to re-elect him.”
