Albany, NY – With the legislative session over for the year, Karen Scharff, Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, has issued the following statement:
“Another legislative session passes without any of the critical reforms promised by the Governor. By keeping education funding low and our criminal injustice system intact, Andrew Cuomo and the Senate Republicans have ensured that Black, Brown, and low-income youth will continue to be funneled into courtrooms and jails, instead of colleges and careers. New York State should be investing in high-quality public schools, not more jails. Once again, the priorities of big donors have taken precedence over the needs of voters, and our children and communities will be the ones that pay the price.”
