Rochester, NY – Citizen Action of New York, a statewide grassroots organization with over 30,000 members across that state, announced the opening of its new Rochester organizing office at 515 State Street.
Locally, Citizen Action played a major role in the passage of the revised Code of Conduct in the Rochester City School District, which in just two years has led to a sizable drop in the number of suspensions and expulsions.
Citizen Action plans to continue organizing around positive school climate and equitable funding for public schools, as well as striving to elect community-oriented leaders who will move their issues forward and address the needs of working people in Rochester and Monroe County.
Some of the organization’s other issue focuses include quality, affordable child care and housing, campaign finance reform, voting rights, Medicare-for-All, progressive taxation, and comprehensive justice reform. They seek to bring community leaders and directly impacted people together to advocate for a more fair and just society.
Citizen Action has eight chapters and affiliates in major regions across New York State, including the Capital District, Southern Tier, Western New York, Hudson Valley, Long Island, New York City, and Central New York. Citizen Action is affiliated on a national level with People’s Action.
