New York, NY — Citizen Action of New York has announced its endorsement of Andrew Gounardes in the 22nd State Senate District. The district includes portions of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Marine Park, and Gerritsen Beach.

A Bay Ridge native, Gounardes currently serves as Counsel to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and as a trustee of the New York City Employees’ Retirement System. He previously worked for Citizens Committee for New York City, a nonprofit providing neighborhood improvement grants.

Citizen Action cited Gounardes commitment to fully funded public schools, universal health care, and fixing the city’s broken transit system as key reasons for their endorsement. Gounardes is looking to unseat Republican State Senator Martin Golden.

“We are proud to be standing behind Andrew Gounardes’ run for State Senate,” said Mindy Rosier, member of Citizen Action of New York. “Andrew is someone we can count on to address the needs of working people in South Brooklyn. We’re excited to work with Andrew to fully fund our public schools and revitalize our crumbling infrastructure.”

“I’m proud and honored to be endorsed by Citizen Action,” said Andrew Gounardes, Democratic candidate for State Senate. “Since the very beginning, this campaign has been about change, and Citizen Action is on the front lines of the issues we’re fighting for. The residents of District 22, and all New Yorkers, deserve elected representatives who are working for them. For far too long, Marty Golden and the Republicans in the New York State Senate have let the voices of the few drown out the cries of the many. The buck stops here, and I look forward to working with Citizen Action to pursue our shared values when I’m elected to the State Senate.”
