Dear Activists,
We appreciate all the folks who came out to the Capitol yesterday—braving the weather and long security lines. Our power is in our people. When we stand together and raise our voices, there is no policy or reform that’s out of reach.

AROUND THE STATE
The Fair Elections Town Hall in New York City brought out a huge crowd. State leaders, along with Congressmembers Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, spoke on the need to fix New York’s broken campaign finance laws and pass a small donor matching system for campaigns.
Citizen Action was part of not one, not two, but THREE big actions at the State Capitol on Wednesday. Hundreds of members from around the state traveled to Albany (through snowy conditions) to push for Fair Elections reform, health coverage for immigrants, and an end to mass jailing and pretrial detention.
Our Hudson Valley chapter held a ribbon-cutting for their newly renovated office, followed later in the week by a screening of the Kalief Browder Story. They were joined by Kalief’s brother Akeem Browder. Kalief spent three years on Rikers Island for allegedly stealing a backpack, including two years in solitary confinement, before his case was eventually dismissed. He later took his own life in what’s a tragic example of the injustice of the criminal legal system.
Jumaane Williams won the special election for New York City Public Advocate. We’re proud to have supported his powerful grassroots campaign! #ItsTime #LetsGo
