Albany, NY—In response to the New York Democratic Committee’s resolution supporting a ban on fusion voting, Jessica Wisneski, Co-Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, has issued the following statement:
“New York’s ‘Blue Wave’ wouldn’t have been possible without the Working Families Party and our fusion voting system. We are incredibly disappointed that the State Democratic Committee would vote to support a ban on fusion. After finally achieving a Senate majority, party officials want to burn down the ladder that got them there.
“With our democracy under attack federally, New York’s elected leaders should be working to expand and strengthen democracy, not restrict it by limiting voters’ choices at the polls. We call on the Legislature to reject any such proposal, and instead pass real democracy reform–including small donor matching–that puts people at the center of politics in New York State.”
