Albany, NY—In response to the repeal of the gravity knife ban, Jessica Wisneski, Co-Executive Director of Citizen Action of New York, has issued the following statement:
“We applaud the Governor and Legislature under the leadership of Speaker Heastie and Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins for taking action to decriminalize gravity knives and stop the needless targeting of Black, Brown, and low-income people who use these tools for work. This session the Legislature has taken bold action to overhaul a racist criminal legal system and deliver justice to marginalized communities. We look forward to working with them in these final weeks to end the torture of solitary confinement, deliver parole reforms and legalize marijuana by passing the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA).”
