New York, New York – Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of Democratic candidate Jason Salmon for State Senate in the 25th District. A life-long Brooklyn resident and former staffer to Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Jason is running on a progressive platform to address housing affordability, end mass incarceration and fight for equity in education.
“We are in the middle of a public health crisis, yet our state government has failed to put the needs of our vulnerable communities at the forefront. We saw this when Governor Cuomo announced a state budget that slashed Medicaid funding by billions and gutted bail reform. These actions have made one thing clear – although communities of color, low-income families, and incarcerated individuals are the hardest hit by COVID-19, they are also the last to receive the support they need. It is at this time that I could not be prouder to receive the endorsement of Citizen Action of New York, an organization whose mission is to serve our most vulnerable populations,” said Jason Salmon, candidate for New York State Senate. “Citizen Action and I share the same grassroots values, progressive agenda, and drive to deliver the protections and resources our community deserves.”
A long-time activist and community organizer, Jason has been on the frontlines fighting for police accountability and transparency, and previously served as a community liaison for Senator Montgomery, who announced she is not seeking reelection this year.
Citizen Action of New York is a statewide grassroots organization with eight regional chapters and thousands of active members. The organization works on issues important to our communities, including limiting the influence of money in politics, guaranteeing livable wage jobs, strong public schools, ending mass incarceration and more. Citizen Action endorses candidates for public office who support the same vision for a New York that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
