New York, NY—Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of several porgessive Democrats running for New York State Assembly, including Karines Reyes for re-election in the 87th Assembly District; Amanda Septimo in the 84th Assembly District; Chantel Jackson in the 79th Assembly District; and Khaleel Anderson in the 31st Assembly District.
“I am proud and thankful to receive the support of Citizen Action. Citizen Action has been a true partner in helping me serve my constituents, both in Albany and in my district,” said Assemblymember Karines Reyes. “Over the past 2 years, we have successfully advocated for bail reform, landmark protections for tenants, more funding for education. I look forward to our continued partnership in the fight for progressive change in our state.”
“Assemblywoman Reyes has been more than an Assemblywoman to our district. She is a nurturer, an advocate and not afraid to stand strong on her values,” said Ingrid Black, Citizen Action member. “Her office is always open and it has been a pleasure working with her for our community. She truly takes our concerns to Albany and works with us every step of the way to ensure that whatever she supports will have a positive impact on our district.”
“It is an absolute honor to know that Citizen Action has endorsed me for the 79th Assembly District,” said Chantel Jackson, candidate for Assembly. “The members of Citizen Action are leaders in their own right. Our missions align on issues around equity in education, criminal justice reform, affordable healthcare and housing and fair elections. We will advocate side by side to ensure that New York State is fair and equitable to all of its citizens.”
“I am so proud to have the endorsement of an organization committed to bringing true justice to communities that have lacked adequate representation and access to resources for so many years,” said Amanda Septimo, candidate for Assembly. “Citizen Action is always on the front line demanding more for our communities, and I look forward to working together to ensure the South Bronx finally gets the representation it deserves.”
“Amanda understands the challenges facing my community because it has shaped her commitment to service, and more importantly her policy platform,” said Ramona F, Citizen Action member. “We have historically been given solutions that haven’t addressed the root of the problems we’re facing. Her commitment to #freeMTA and reimbursed NYCHA repairs is more than that.”
“Amanda understands firsthand the hardships and the incessant abandonment residents from the 84th Assembly District face,” said Anais Aboab, Citizen Action member. “She is the kind of fierce, hardworking and conscientious leader we need fighting for us in Albany. No doubt, she will implement and bring about the legislative change we need in the South Bronx.”
“I am honored to accept the endorsement of Citizens Action New York,” said Khaleel Anderson, candidate for Assembly. “This is an organization that’s committed to changing oppressive systems and fights to make sure that criminal justice reform, environmental racism and healthcare —which are the top priority for my district—are addressed. I’m excited to partner with them in a new fight together.”
