Rochester, NY— Citizen Action of New York’s Rochester chapter is celebrating progressive wins, including Samra Brouk’s historic win in Senate District 55 and Jeremy Cooney’s win in Senate District 56. Samra ran a competitive campaign centering the voices of working families and flipped the district blue, becoming the first woman of color to represent Rochester in the New York State Senate. Nishant Srivastava, a member of Citizen Action’s Rochester chapter, released the following statement:
“Our chapter has worked tirelessly to connect with voters and support progressive candidates like Samra and Jeremy. State leaders have not delivered the way we needed them to during this pandemic, and we need elected officials who will prioritize our issues. We organized and now we have two more progressive champions on their way to Albany to fight for our schools, health care and housing, and to raise taxes on billionaires so that a recovery for all us is possible. Thank you to everyone who phone-banked with us, sent text messages, and volunteered countless hours to get out the vote! As we celebrate these wins, we are looking forward to winning the White House no matter how long it takes to count every vote.”
Citizen Action volunteers and staff contacted more than 130,000 New York voters in the days leading up to Election Day to get out the vote across the state.
