New York, NY – Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of Chi Ossé for New York City Council in Brooklyn’s District 36, covering Bedstuy and Crown Heights. As part of the city’s new ranked choice voting, the chapter ranked Tahirah Moore as its second choice for the seat.
An activist and third-generation Brooklynite, Chi is committed to restoring justice, supporting families and seniors, investing in education, housing and health care, and reimagining public safety so that the system ceases to criminalize Black and Brown people. Chi is also committed to reducing inflated police budgets and reinvesting that money back into the community to focus on holistic harm reduction and community building. New York City’s primary election will be on Tuesday, June 22.
“I’m thrilled to have the endorsement of Citizen Action, because for them to identify me as the candidate who most closely shared their values is an honor. Citizen Action’s work has been critical in the fight to make our shared city a stronger and more equitable home. In the new system of Ranked Choice Voting, their endorsement of our campaign as number one will aid in our path to victory,” said Chi Ossé, Democratic candidate for New York City Council District 36.
Raised in Marcy Houses, Tahirah is also a lifelong resident of the district. She previously served as advisor in the Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Intergovernmental Affairs Unit. She is running to champion housing as human right, fully funded public schools, health care, and public safety.
Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots organization with eight regional chapters and over 30,000 members across New York State.
