Buffalo, NY – Citizen Action of New York announced its endorsement of Erie County Legislature Chairwoman April Baskin for re-election in District 2. April was first elected in 2017, and in 2019, became the youngest person in history named as chairperson of the county legislature.
“Thank you Citizen Action for your endorsement for my re-election as Erie County District 2 Legislator. I am proud to stand with a strong, progressive coalition of voices. Together we will continue to serve those who are most in need of advocacy,” said April Baskin, chair of the Erie County Legislature.
April has been committed to investing in education and health care, ending mass incarceration and tackling poverty. Citizen Action cites her support for progressive policies like raising the minimum wage, transitioning to clean and renewable energy, and comprehensive reform to the local criminal legal system as key reasons for its endorsement.
“We, at Citizen Action of Western New York, conducted a thorough endorsement process that included countless hours of discussing issues related to housing, policing, climate justice and education and a number of interviews with a variety of qualified candidates. Ultimately, we decided to endorse the candidates that most reflected our shared interest in building a more just and equitable region. I am happy to have co-chaired this process alongside Tamea Dixon and elated in our decision to endorse April Baskin,” said De’Jon J. Hall, who is an attorney and co-chair of the chapter’s Elections Committee.
“I am pleased to announce as chair of the Citizen Action Endorsement Committee that the candidates that have been chosen for endorsement by the Western New York Endorsement Committee and Citizen Action members, have shown to represent the values of our community and the shared passion for the pursuit. By endorsing these candidates, the committee anticipates having the ability to build alliances for positive initiatives in areas of policy and advocacy for residents of the City of Buffalo and Erie County,” said Tamea Dixon, chair of the chapter’s Endorsement Committee.
Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots organization with eight regional chapters and over 30,000 members across New York State.
