New York, NY – With primary election day less than two months away, Citizen Action of New York has decided to endorse Scott Stringer (Ranked 1), and Dianne Morales (Ranked 2) in the NYC Mayor’s race. Scott and Dianne share a vision for New York City that values regular New Yorkers over developers and are prepared to lead the city in a post-Covid recovery on day one.
Citizen Action has a long-standing relationship with Stringer, who we also endorsed when he ran for NYC Comptroller in 2013 and in 2017.
“Scott Stringer is a true public servant who has spent over twenty years fighting for everyday New Yorkers,” said Jason Salmon, New York City Regional Director of Citizen Action of New York. “We are proud to stand with a proven progressive who will deliver a just recovery from COVID, build a new generation of deeply affordable housing, use the power of the Mayor’s office to redefine public safety and truly invest in Black and brown communities.”
“I’m running for mayor to make our city more fair, more just, and more equitable, and I’m proud to have a great partner in Citizen Action,” said Comptroller Scott Stringer, Democratic candidate for New York City Mayor. “This is an organization that works to lift up New Yorkers on the ground every day, and they do great work — but we have so much more to do. We need affordable housing in every neighborhood, a small business recovery, and a Green New Deal for New York City. To deliver economic justice and racial justice requires vision, experience, and detailed plans that level the playing field. That’s what my campaign is all about, and working hand-in-hand with Citizen Action, I know we’ll build a city for everyone.”
In a crowded field of candidates, Dianne has captured the attention and support of many in the progressive movement with her bold vision and unapologetic campaign goal of defunding the New York Police Department.
“Citizen Action does not mess around when it comes to true grassroots organizing. Neither does my campaign. That’s why I’m so honored to have the support of Citizen Action members who are fresh off a historic win in organizing around the 2021-22 State Budget which included increasing taxes on the wealthy, passing marijuana legalization and HALT Solitary, and fully funding Foundation Aid while strengthening protections for New York tenants,” said NYC Mayoral Candidate Dianne Morales. “Together, with our shared vision for a solidarity NYC, we will realize real transformational change because there is no more time for tinkering around the edges with reform. I’m ready to continue fighting alongside Citizen Action and our shared progressive movement.”
“I have been blown away by Dianne’s campaign and her commitment to dignity, care, and solidarity to all New Yorkers,” said Sherese Jackson, a Citizen Action Member. “She and Scott Stringer are changing the way we talk about the city and its leadership, and we will all be better off if one of them becomes our next Mayor.”
Citizen Action of New York is a grassroots organization with eight regional chapters and over 30,000 members across New York State. We work on issues important to our communities, including taxing the rich, fair elections, equitable school funding, housing and health care for all, environmental justice, and ending mass incarceration.
