June 29, 2022 (Kingston, NY)–Citizen Action of New York is overjoyed that Sarahana Shrestha has won her race and will serve as State Assembly member for the 103rd District in the Hudson Valley. Citizen Action endorsed Shrestha, who ran an excellent grassroots campaign focused on progressive policy solutions to issues of climate change, housing insecurity, health care and education. Members of the Hudson Valley chapter knocked thousands of doors and made thousands of phone calls to voters on behalf of Shrestha.
“I am really excited that Sarahana Shrestha will be our next Assembly member,” said Malia Cordel, member of Citizen Action Hudson Valley chapter. “Her grassroots campaign has been inspiring and she understands what we need here in the Hudson Valley. I can’t wait to see her in Albany, leading on issues like climate, housing, universal health care, and full funding for SUNY.”
Stanley Fritz, Citizen Action of New York’s Statewide Political Director, said, “New Yorkers need leaders who listen to our needs and will take the fight for those issues seriously. During her campaign, Shrestha made it clear that she is someone we can count on to do what’s right and take a stand for bold, progressive policy change that expands access to care, helps people stay in their homes, and meaningfully addresses the danger of climate crisis. Citizen Action looks forward to working with her to get these priorities passed into policy in the coming legislative sessions.”
