January 9, 2023 (New York, NY)–Citizen Action of New York supports the nurses represented by the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), who have gone on strike today at Mount Sinai and Montefiore hospitals. We stand in solidarity with the approximately 7,000 nurses raising issues affecting the quality of care they are able to provide patients–such as staff shortages and awful working conditions that have been exacerbated by the pandemic. NYSNA has made clear to patients that seeking care is not considered crossing the picket line and they should seek the care they need regardless of the strike–an illustration of the nurses’ commitment to patient wellbeing above all else. Citizen Action joins other allies in calling upon Mount Sinai and Montefiore hospitals to stop holding up negotiations and treat nurses with the dignity and respect they deserve, so that they can quickly return to providing superior care to patients.
