In response to Mayor Adams’ announced cuts to New York City services, including Universal 3-K and public libraries, Kylynn Grier, Co-Organizing Director of Citizen Action of New York, released the following statement:
“New Yorkers are already struggling with an overwhelming affordability crisis that is impacting their everyday lives. Now is not the time to implement deep cuts to the resources many rely on. Affordable housing, child care, education, and other vital services, like our public libraries, are the lifelines that allow us all an opportunity to thrive.
The Mayor’s finger-pointing at migrants as the need for these budget cuts is irresponsible and misguided. New York City has been a place made stronger by welcoming new communities for generations — and now is no different. Adams must govern from a place of centering humanity, not his personal or corporate interests.”
