Citizen Action of New York Reacts to Adams’ State of the City Address

January 24, 2024 (New York, NY) — In response to New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ third State of the City Address, Jesse Koklas, NYC Regional Director of Citizen Action of New York, had this to say:

“Eric Adams says the state of New York City is strong, but those struggling with the catastrophic affordability crisis say otherwise. While the Mayor praised the city as a beacon for immigrants hoping for the American Dream, his actions show he regularly uses them as a scapegoat, blaming migrants for a lack of resources and an increase in violent crime.

“Our message to the Mayor is clear: New Yorkers desperately need tenant protections, adequate funding for 3K and Pre-K, sanitation, our libraries, and other vital community resources. We want care, not criminalization of the underrepresented.

“At Citizen Action, we’re looking forward to working with Mayor Adams and the City Council in our fight for a New York City where everyone can truly thrive.”
