Carolyn Martinez-Class and Rebecca Garrard Named Interim Co-Executive Directors
Albany, New York – Citizen Action of New York announces the unexpected news that Executive Director Rosemary Rivera is stepping down to focus on her health. This decision, though sudden, is made with the full support of the board and staff, as the organization prioritizes Rosemary’s well-being during this critical time. In light of this transition, Carolyn Martinez-Class and Rebecca Garrard will assume the roles of Interim Co-Executive Directors. They bring a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to the mission of Citizen Action, ensuring the organization’s continued strength in the pursuit of justice for everyday New Yorkers.
Rosemary Rivera has dedicated the past 20 years to Citizen Action, fighting for a more equitable and just New York. A directly impacted New YoRican who began her career as a volunteer, Rosemary became the first Latina and the first LGBTQ person to hold the role of Executive Director at Citizen Action in 2023. Her knack for grassroots power-building, passion and tireless advocacy have led to many victories, profoundly impacting the lives of countless New Yorkers. The board, staff and members of Citizen Action express immense gratitude for her years of service and the imprint she leaves on the organization.
