Albany, NY – In response to House Republicans passing a budget resolution that forges a path for President Trump’s agenda to wage war on working families across the country, Carolyn Martinez-Class and Rebecca Garrard, Interim Co-Executive Directors at Citizen Action of New York, issued the following statement:

“Let’s be clear: House Republicans like Nicole Malliotakis and Mike Lawler voted to gut Medicaid and other essential programs, selling out working families to hand $4.5 trillion in tax breaks to billionaires and corporations. This budget resolution is nothing short of economic violence against everyday Americans.

“The consequences of this reckless budget are dire. Millions of Americans rely on Medicaid for life-saving care, and slashing its funding will leave families scrambling to afford doctor visits, prescriptions, and critical treatments. Meanwhile, corporations and billionaires will be celebrating record-breaking profits—all paid for by working people who are already struggling with skyrocketing costs of living.

“New Yorkers deserve leaders who fight for them, not politicians who betray their communities to please billionaire bullies. Everyday Americans won’t forget who turned their backs on them when it mattered most.”
