NEW YORK, NY – In response to Andrew Cuomo announcing his candidacy for Mayor of New York City, Carolyn Martinez-Class and Rebecca Garrard, Interim Co-Executive Directors at Citizen Action of New York, issued the following joint statement:
“Cuomo’s tenure as governor was marred by scandal, corruption, and a complete disregard for the needs of everyday people. His record speaks for itself: he created a toxic culture of harassment, abuse, and intimidation. He repeatedly stood in the way of progressive policies that would have lifted up working-class communities. His resignation was not an act of accountability—it was an escape route from the consequences of his actions.
“New Yorkers are tired of politicians who put their own self-interest above that of the people they are supposed to serve. As Andrew Cuomo attempts to weasel his way back into power, we will fight for a leader New Yorkers deserve—not a corrupt, power-hungry politician looking for his next gig.
“Citizen Action of New York is committed to ensuring that New York City has a mayor who fights for justice, equity, and the well-being of all New Yorkers—not one who prioritizes power and political revenge. We will not stand by and allow a disgraced former governor to sell the people of this city another lie.”
