(Albany, NY) – The Capital District Chapter of Citizen Action of New York has announced a slate of endorsements for candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing social and economic justice. These endorsed candidates have pledged to fight for progressive policies that prioritize the needs of working families, racial and economic equity, and investments in public services that strengthen communities.

“Our endorsed candidates in the Capital District represent the bold, people-centered leadership we need to build a more just and equitable New York,” said Eduardo Hernandez, Community Organizer, Capital District Chapter of Citizen Action of New York. “They are committed to fighting for affordable housing, fully funded schools, and economic policies that uplift working families — not just the wealthy and well-connected. We’re proud to support leaders who will stand up for our communities and ensure that every New Yorker has a voice in our democracy.”

The candidates endorsed by Citizen Action of New York’s Capital District Chapter include:

  • Dorcey Applyrs for Mayor of Albany;

  • Justin Perkins for Albany Common Council Ward 6;

  • Noreen McKee for Troy City Council District 4;

  • Jona Favreau for Troy City Council District 5; and

  • Greg Campbell-Cohen for Troy City Council District 6.

“I am proud that my campaign for Mayor of Albany has been endorsed by Citizen Action of New York,” said Dorcey Applyrs, Candidate for Mayor of Albany. “When I was first elected as Albany Councilmember, it was members of Citizen Action that stood with me to fight against the crude oil trains in the South End. Twelve years later, I am excited to continue to stand with Citizen Action as we work to make Albany a place that all of its residents can thrive.”

“It’s an honor to be endorsed by Citizen Action of New York – a powerful, grassroots organization with a proven track record fighting for working class people,” said Justin Perkins, Candidate for Albany Common Council Ward 6. “I’m proud to have stood side-by-side with Citizen Action for years to fight for critical legislation in the state legislature, and now I’m ready to bring that same energy and work ethic to the Albany Common Council. I look forward to continuing to work together to make meaningful change here in the 6th Ward.”

“My activism has always been about justice and equity, and my campaign for Troy city council, District 4, carries that forward,” said Noreen McKee, Candidate for Troy City Council District 4. “I secured early voting downtown to ensure access for all, especially communities of color. I support efforts against structural racism and push for affordable housing for every Trojan. With Citizen Action’s endorsement, we’re united in building a Troy that works for everyone through accountable governance and community power.”

“I’m proud to have the support of Citizen Action! They’ve been organizing alongside everyday New Yorkers for climate justice, affordable housing, and real community power,” said Jona Favreau, Candidate for Troy City Council District 5. “I’m running for City Council to carry that work forward in Troy — because everyone deserves a safe place to live and a healthy future.”

“I am honored to be endorsed by Citizen Action of New York, an institution that has spent decades organizing working people to improve the safety and affordability of homes, communities, and jobs all across the state,” said Greg Campbell-Cohen, Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for Troy City Council District 6. “Citizen Action knows that we can’t solve kitchen table problems in Troy by being ‘clever’ or ‘right’. I’m very grateful for their support in organizing and mobilizing the working residents who deserve a Troy that works for them.”
