Congratulations Unicorns! Oh, I didn’t tell you? You’re all Unicorns now. Why you ask, well, because you’re awesome, you do amazing work, you care about people and we’re going to change the world. Got it? Good. Now Unicorns, I need your help, Donald Trump’s surrogates keep saying ridiculous things and it feels like no one else seems to notice. How are these people getting jobs?  I honestly can’t wait until the election are over and he goes back to hosting tables at Arby’s. Trump can’t win, the math isn’t on his side and he is literally sinking in the polls. However, as much as I would enjoy watching his campaign spiral out of control, we have work to do. This is what our fight for justice looked like this week.

Capital District Gets Busy. It looks like the Capital District is coming after the Hudson Valley’s  title as the busiest chapter in the state. On August 22, The Capital District Raise The Wage Coalition came together for its End of Summer Social. Citizen Action was proud to be a part of this day. It was great to sit back, relax, talk with coalition members and hear from Fight for $15 workers about their trip to Richmond, VA for the National Convention where thousands from across the United States joined together in unity.

Blueprints for Power. Whenever you start talking about the Blueprint, you’re heading in the right direction. And no, I’m not just saying that because I’m a huge Jay-Z fan. Blueprints are for power (except for Blueprint 2. That album wasn’t so good). That’s why the Hudson Valley Chapter brought the community together to hear Charles Khan of Strong Economy for All Coalition share a successful blueprint on how to build power in their communities so that we can shut down the billionaires and millionaires who want to control our leadership, our laws, and our votes. It’s Time for Our Revolution. I think it’s fair to say that Senator Sanders’ run for President was one of the most inspiring and empowering parts of this year’s Presidential election cycle. And while he didn’t win, he built a broad coalition of activists, organizers, artists and policy people ready to continue the political revolution. Well, on August 24, the next step in that revolution came to life when the New York City Chapter of Citizen Action joined 12 organizers for the Bernie Sanders campaign to watch Senator Sanders launch his new organization,Our Revolution. While Bernie builds the next phase of our revolution, we are working to continue his fight through our Demand Democracy Campaign. Through Demand Democracy, we will fight for a Brand New Albany. Click here to get involved.

The Activist Check-In Podcast is back, and on this episode, we’re talking to the world renowned, super awesome and super talented organizing duo of Alex Deane and Callie Jayne. We talked about everything under the sun, including Alex’s hatred of the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, our political theories on Batman, and how the members of the Hudson Valley Chapter are some of the coolest and hard working people you will ever meet. You can listen to the entire episode here.

IN THE NEWS

This story isn’t local, but it’s definitely interesting. President Obama’s civil rights lawyers are seeking a potentially far-reaching ruling to hold that the Constitution forbids the common practice of keeping people in jail prior to a trial, even for minor offenses, just because they are too poor to pay for bail. TAKE ACTION!

We deserve a government that works for all of us, not just big donors. And together, we can create it. Whether it’s affordable housing, education funding, protecting workers, or protecting the environment, too many Albany lawmakers continue to put the priorities of big donors ahead of the people’s priorities. It’s time to fix this. Click here to take action.
