Dear Activists,

I’m guessing most of you—like me—were glued to your TV screens on Tuesday, watching the results of the Alabama special election roll in. While it’s easy to linger on the 650,000+ citizens that voted for Moore, over 670,000 rejected the racist, homophobic sexual predator that was once considered a shoe-in. This is progress—and progress we can thank Black women for delivering (98% of whom voted Jones). Alabama hasn’t had a Democratic Senator in a quarter century. Let’s make sure Doug Jones never forgets that it was women of color who got him into office.

AROUND THE STATE

Central New York Citizen Action joined with Herkimer residents and members of Indivisible Mohawk Valley to protest the tax bill, which could come up for a vote as early as Monday.

Folks from the Capital District came together for a Racial Justice Workshop where they discussed levels of racism, diversity vs. anti-racism, and how to be an effective agent for change.

State leaders and organizers for Citizen Action of New York spent three days in Albany to plan, strategize, and set our campaign goals. Expect big things from us in 2018!
