Dear Activists,
Do you know what my favorite snow day activity is? Becoming a sustaining member of a grassroots organization leading the fight for progressive reform in New York State. Also, drinking hot chocolate. It may be too snowy to protest, but we can still make an impact from the comfort of home.

AROUND THE STATE
NY Renews members from around the state packed the Environmental Conservation hearing at the State Capitol to voice their support for carbon fee legislation. Later that day, they delivered a $7 billion check to Governor Cuomo’s office, representing the amount of revenue New York would generate through a corporate polluter fee.
Metro Justice co-sponsored the #FREEnewyork Town Hall in Rochester. Community leaders and legal experts discussed the urgent need for bail, speedy trial, and discovery reform in New York State.

IN THE NEWS
Executive Director Karen Scharff wrote a commentary piece for the Albany Times Union on the Janus vs. AFSCME Supreme Court case and the threat it poses to all working people in America:
“The Right to Work Foundation and other billionaire-funded organizations have made it their mission to strip away the rights and protections that working people have spent decades fighting for: minimum wage, overtime pay, retirement security, health care benefits. A victory in the Janus case would be the Right to Work Foundation’s crowning achievement.”
