Dear Activists,
Rally for early voting this Sunday. Be there or be square (or be somewhere outside the New York metropolitan area). When it comes to voter turnout, the United States ranks 28th among the 35 most economically prosperous countries. And New York ranks 41st out of the 50 states. In other words, we’re not doing so hot. We can’t let the Cuomo and the State Senate continue to drag their feet. The time for voting reform is now.

AROUND THE STATE
Citizen Action of New York joined the #FREEnewyork campaign for a day of action at the Capital to advocate for comprehensive bail, discovery, and speedy trial reform (not the half-measures currently being pushed by Governor Cuomo).
Later that evening, Stanley Fritz and Jamaica Miles led a community town hall on the urgent need to fix our broken justice system.
The Albany Paid Sick Day Coalition (of which Citizen Action is a proud member) held a press conference and rally with Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy to show our support for paid sick day legislation. Presently, 40% of Albany County workers lack even a single paid sick day, which forces them to choose between losing pay or going to work sick.
THIS WEEK IN ACTIVISM HISTORY
On March 12th 1930, the Salt March began in Ahmedabad, India. Led by Mahatma Gandhi, the march was a protest of British taxation on salt production and spurred the Indian independence movement. Nearly 60,000 marchers were arrested during the 240 mile trek to the coast.
