Dear Activists,
Several of our chapters are gearing up for local March for Our Lives actions this weekend. Others are coordinating transportation down to D.C. (Currently 836 events are scheduled around the world!) We’re looking forward to standing up to the corporate interests and powerful lobbyists–like the NRA–who are holding our democracy hostage and putting their profits above the safety and wellbeing of our communities. Enough is enough.

AROUND THE STATE
Our Utica chapter used the occasion of the St. Patrick’s Day parade to bring attention to this weekend’s March for Our Lives. The march, which is being organized by students at Proctor High School, will kick off on Saturday at noon.
Church leaders with the Fair and Faithful Budget Tour stopped in Utica to call on the wealthiest New Yorkers to start paying their fair share in taxes. They’re asking Albany to close the carried interest loophole and implement a millionaire tax in order to fund vital state programs. So far the tour has stopped in Albany, Buffalo, and New York City.
Metro Justice, joined by transit, disability, and climate activists, called for increased state funding for public transportation in Rochester. The city bus system is currently in the process of a major redesign, but lacks the funds to meet the needs of city residents.
THIS WEEK IN ACTIVISM HISTORY
On March 17th, 1968, hundreds were arrested protesting the Vietnam War outside the U.S. embassy in London, England. Dozens more were injured during clashes with the police. An estimated 25,000 took part in the demonstration.
