Dear Activists,

Tuesday was Tax Day for most of us. Or, as it’s known among the billionaire set: Giveaway Day. Bank of America paid half a billion less in taxes in the first quarter of 2018. And the financial industry is set to make $250 billion over the next decade thanks to corporate tax cuts. Republicans said the extra money would go to pay workers, but instead corporations are spending billions on stock buybacks to enrich their shareholders. We need to make sure that any elected official who voted for this heinous tax bill is shown the door.

AROUND THE STATE

Citizen Action, Make the Road New York, and New York Communities for Change held a rally in the rain to defend ourselves against Governor Cuomo’s threats to defund community organizations that question him. But Citizen Action and its allies will not be bullied and not back down. To quote Stanley Fritz, we say “hell no to pay-as-you-go progressivism.”

Organizers and activists in Kingston, Glens Falls, and Binghamton held Tax Day actions to call for repealing the Trump tax cuts, curbing military spending, and investing in vital social programs.

Ever tried dismantling the patriarchy? It is hard. Our New York City chapter held a workshop to educate men on how to become better allies in the struggle for gender equity.

Long Island Progressive Coalition stood with restaurant workers and union allies at the One Fair Wage public hearing on Long Island. Working people can’t survive on tips alone. We need #1FairWage now.

FROM THE BLOG: “WHY CYNTHIA AND JUMAANE ARE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR NEW YORK”

“We are energized by the platforms and message of both Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane Williams. They come with a track record of fighting for working people and the children of our state. We can trust them to speak up when others are silent, to protect the most vulnerable among us, and to fight for Black and Brown communities, low-income communities, and others who have been hurt by Governor Cuomo’s failed policies.” READ FULL POST AT MEDIUM
